Losing Weight with Self-Mastery, Part IV Insights Jan 04

This is an ongoing report on the tools and insights of Self-Mastery I’ve used to lose weight. These tools and insights will help you work on any goal.

I've gone from a size twenty to a size ten, still eating potato chips and anything else I want every day. I got rid of a lot of clothes and shopped for new ones in stores that are not for oversize people.

Some of the issues that have been part of my weight loss work are issues I've tackled before, so why am I suddenly dropping pounds? It's about intent. If I use self-mastery tools with the intention of evolving to a naturally slim person, that's what I get. If I use self-mastery tools with the intention of being happy, that's what I get. Yes, you can do both, by defining a single intention that encompasses both. The more you dilute the intention by making it broad in scope, the slower you'll progress.

If you're using tools with an intention and not making progress, it means your intention is not clear, so shift your focus to making your intention clear. Things to consider are: is this intention strictly personal and only for you; is the intention reduced to its simplest form; is your intention focused tightly and directly so you can distinguish results; is the intention positive and towards a positive goal? Losing weight is the result, not the intention: my intention is to be a naturally slim person.

Some of my work has involved boundaries. We are tribal creatures. We are hard-wired by Nature to consider that what's good for the tribe is good for us, and to conform with what's good for the tribe.

We're surrounded with messages about conforming, and external definitions to which we're expected to conform. This affects belief systems, behaviors, moods and thoughts, and is often reflected in what we wear, how we act, what we eat, and how we feel.

This conforming occurs on the subconscious level, in places like the limbic system and the brain stem, so it's important to recognize that you may be completely individual in your thinking and have a subconscious need to conform. Often the disparity between our thoughts and our subconscious is expressed in the body, or performed in the body.
Have you noticed that it's much harder to stay serene and happy when around unconscious people? How can we keep our body true to our authentic self?

Here's a great tool I call the singing bowl. If you've 'played' a wine glass with your finger, skip this paragraph. If not, try it so you have the image. Fill a wine glass about one third full of water. Dip your index finger in the water to wet it. Run your finger around the rim of the glass, flat on the top of the edge. It will begin to 'sing' a tone, like a high-pitched hum. Slower is better. Different levels of water produce different tones.

Now, imagine your lower belly or sacral chakra like a bowl with liquid energy in it. 'Play' your bowl, just by imagining you are running your finger around the rim. It will hum like the wine glass, whether or not you can hear the tone. This tone is the natural vibration of your body. By creating the vibration, you're tuning your body to your self. This chakra is about being authentic and true to yourself, so it's the perfect one to use for keeping your body true to your self. As you continue to play, you'll notice your body relaxing.

You can use this singing bowl technique for healing your chakras, for shielding your body from negative emotions in others, and for healing your body. You can sing all your chakras. Each one has a different effect, based on the nature of the chakra. Playing combinations creates different results.

For example:
Play throat and sacral: speaking your truth.
Play sacral and solar plexus: living true to your self.
You can have a lot of fun and a great healing experience playing combinations of chakras. Playing all of the main chakras together is a powerful experience.
Using this tool, I can keep my body true to my intention of being a naturally slim person. I can help my entire being resist the messages to conform, to be like others, to be what others expect of me - instead I can be what I want to be. I can be true to my self.
Try singing your chakras. You'll make beautiful music!
