The energy around you affects you. You can use shielding tools to filter energy and protect yourself. Enjoy the flow of energy while keeping your energy safe from the emotions, attitudes and events around you. The Columning Tool is used to protect you from large flows of energy that occur when a lot of people are having similar emotional reactions

rock-concert-group-energyImagine the energy of a sports event or a rock concert: lots of people are excited at the same time.

Major events, from rock concerts to floods, are situations where many people are feeling similar emotions. All those people’s emotions create waves of energy that can affect you, even when you are far away and even when you don’t know about the event. It’s like distant weather that can cause aches and pains, affecting your mood, your physical energy, and impacting your life.

The Columning Tool is designed to protect you from the influence of these large waves of energy, preventing external energies from overriding your choices about your life.

The Columning Tool

During this meditation you’ll be asked to form your energy into a column. You may form a column of any element and any design, whatever feels right for you. You may notice that you use different elements at different times when you form your column, such as fire, water, air or earth. At one time you may form a stone column or a metal column or a lava column. At another time you may form a column of water like a geyser, or a column of ice or steam. Whatever works for you is right for you.

During this meditation you’ll be asked to imagine the universal energy like an ocean formed of the drops of every person’s energy. Without intent, people are swept along like flotsam by the currents and waves of the energy around them. By columning you allow yourself to choose your interaction with the waves of energy.

Practice columning so that you can use it without distraction in your daily life. Check the Shielding Toolset to find techniques for making shielding automatic.

Sit quietly and notice your breath. Let your breath be slow and low, even on the way in and even on the way out.

Notice the flow of your personal energy through your body. Energy flows through you and around you. Notice the flow from the universal energy down through your body and the flow from the earth energy up through your body. Notice that your energy radiates outward in all directions, through you and around you.

Imagine allowing your awareness to perceive the universal energy like an ocean formed of the drops of every person’s energy. Imagine perceiving the flows and eddies, the waves and currents in this ocean of energy.  Imagine forming your personal energy into a column to hold you strong and steady amidst all the waves and currents. 

Be aware of the flow of energy from deep in the heart of the earth up through you to the universe. 
Be aware of the flow of energy from the universe through you and down into the earth.
Form the flow of energy through you into a column, using the element that suits you.  

Root your column deep into the heart of the earth.
Anchor your column with the universal energy.
Feel the flow of energy through you, strong and secure, holding your self, your identity, firm against the pressures and influences around you.

Notice the waves and currents of the universal energy flowing around you. Notice that your energy is secure and strong, stable even when waves crash against your column and solid even when currents drag at your column.  Your intent anchors your column and protects your identity and your choices. You are the only one who can decide how you interact with the energy around you. Your command of your energy is absolute.

Allow yourself to notice the flows around you. You may gather information through your awareness of the flows and currents. You may choose to exert your will interacting with the flows around you. Allow the glow of your energy to beam from your column like a beacon amidst the turmoil.  Waves will crash, diminished by your solid presence. Your energy glows like a beacon, demonstrating the possibility of choice and autonomy in the midst of influence. 

When you are done, return your awareness to what is around you and to your breath. Sit quietly and focus on your breath until you feel done.  Bring your awareness back to the present and your body, wiggling your toes and moving until you feel fully present. 

When you are learning, practice columning whenever you think of natural disasters or tragic events. You are training your subconscious to feel safe in the midst of turmoil, and training you to be present and making choices. Thinking about the spiritual purpose of these events doesn’t really cut it: to live the life you choose requires energy autonomy.

There is resistance to change and to shielding. You have been taught to feel badly because people are suffering. Instead of reducing your effect by suffering, you can protect yourself and your ability to make choices about your affect. Instead of being battered by the pain of other people, you can protect yourself and your ability to contribute. Columning is an active form of caring instead of a victim state.

If you typically have strong reactions to world events you reprogram your reactions. You can grow new neural pathways, giving your mind a different option instead of miserable reactions. Practice Columning. While you are columning be aware of the many waves and currents in the universal energy. Be aware of the sense of peace you feel while columning. This feeling of peace occurs because you are being true to you, keeping your energy true to you, and holding sacred your spirit’s expression. Feel the peace, let it permeate you, and bring the feeling of peace into your body. Train your body to feel peace during turmoil. Repeat this practice until you are free of reactions to turmoil. This training is definitely worth the effort because the future is sure to have events that would otherwise affect you.
